Erinspiration!

This week is a busy one!

We celebrate Erin PS and our communities - local and global - and have many activities planned that are linked to the community in which we live.

Yesterday , we had a visit and presentation from Chris Bard - captain of the Canadian Snowbirds - who spoke about having the drive and determination to reach your dreams!  An excellent presentation!

Today, our Theme of the Day: Include Others and Don’t Tolerate Bullying! We have an all school slide show, a vow of silence, wear pink campaign, and $2 donations being raised for the building/materials for a school in Africa.

Tomorrow, the grade 8's are headed to the high school for grade 9 orientation. We will be walking over at 10:45 am and returning at 12:45 pm.

HONEY ORDERS : we supposed to be picked up tonight after school, HOWEVER, due to high demand of orders, the farm needs more time to bottle and package the honey.  Pick up will be NEXT week. I will keep you posted!

Up-coming dates :

Monday : The kids are starting their speeches
Tuesday : The kids are going tree planting for their Earth Day activities

More information to be posted throughout the week :)

Great Week!

The kids have had a GREAT week!

Awesome things are going on in every subject!

I can't believe the quality of the speeches the kids are writing!!! And the math unit is going well!

Rugby clinics are taking place, and a lot of kids from 8D are involved....and the badminton team try-outs are next week.... which are also attracting the attention of 8D!
Great stuff!

Grade 8 Trip Update :
The grade 8's purchased over $5000.00 in honey sales which is awesome!  Chocolate bar sales will begin next week.

A glance at next week :

Monday is a PA Day

On Wednesday and Thursday , we have gr. 9 Orientation at the Erin High School.  The kids will be paired up with high school mentors and travel with them for the morning to "get a glimpse" of what high school life is like.  When I know the exact day we are going - I will post it on the blog.

Take care everyone,
Miss Waddell

Ice and Rain!

Wow - what unbelievable weather we have been having for April!

Nonetheless, another short week in room 18!

So here's the re-cap of what we have been up to:

Language : this week we worked on our speeches, magazine covers, and media unit. Last Friday Mrs. LeBlanc (our principal's wife) came in to talk to the kids about magazines and magazine article writing and editing. The experience was great and will definitely help the kids as they develop their own article-writing skills. We are tackling feature articles next week.  Rough copies of speeches are going to be due next Wednesday.

Math : we have been learning about ratios, percents and decimals.....and just recently started unit rate.

Geography : we are talking about population distribution and the factors that affect where people live on the planet. The countries we have looked at : Switzerland, Norway, Brazil, and the continent of Africa.

Phys-ed : we are still working on rugby skills/game techniques with Michael, our co-op student, and have also been working on lacrosse this week.  Michael is also running rugby clinics during breaks and the kids have been coming out to learn and hone their rugby skills!

Reminders :

The first installment of the grade 8 trip was due on Wednesday - $160.... cheques made out to Studentkind please!  Everyone who registered their child to go on the trip has received an email that outlines the details of the trip and when the deposits are due.  Fundraising is on-going...honey orders were due today, although that deadline will be extended to Monday.

Yearbook orders were due today as well, but due to the weather the due date will be extended to next week.

Have a great weekend!
