Busy Busy Busy!!!!

It has been a week since the last blog update!!  Too long!!!

Here we go!!!!

I hope you had a wonderful Family Day weekend!

Here is what's up in Room 18 :

Language :
The kids are finishing their Making An Impact essay. Rough copies are done, self and peer editing has been done in class, and good copies are due Monday, the 24th of February. Destination Sochi Olympic travel activities are due next week as well. We are moving into a creative reading and writing unit with a few opportunities for the kids to demonstrate their skills and explore their imaginations - details to follow soon!

Math :
We are working our way through our integers unit. Most of the activities are completed in class, however, a few kids may need some time at home to finish things up. I am also in our room at every break for any extra help the kids may need.

History/Geography :
We are finishing history this week. Our first geography unit involves taking a "snap shot" look at other countries around the world and comparing them to Canada. We will quickly move into a population distribution/density unit. Many cool things are planned for this unit!

Art :
The last period to finish their pointillism art will be either tomorrow or Friday.

Gym :
Our badminton unit is on the go!  The kids  love it!  Our healthy-eating menu search is also coming along quite nicely too!

DATES TO REMEMBER :

Tomorrow - basketball players are headed to Guelph to represent our team at the tournament.

Tomorrow - four of our students will be participating in a math competition at the high school

Friday - white and red day - support our Olympic athletes!!

Friday -  culminating math activities - INFORGRAPHICS are due.

Things To Do!

Here is our Room 18 list :

Things To Do List :

1. Please review your son or daughter's report card and return the tear-off portion to the school by early next week. If you wish to discuss the report card, please contact me at the school.

2. Blue skating permission forms went home today. We are going skating on Thursday afternoon ( periods 5 and 6), and the cost is $2.  Please sign the blue form - reading the "helmet" portion of the form carefully! Helmets are to be worn unless you give permission for your son or daughter to go skating without one. Any parents interested in coming with us are more than welcome!

3. History presentations are beginning tomorrow. Each student knows what they are responsible for.

4. Infographic culminating math activities are due on the 19th of February. The kids chose this as their due day - and this gives them quite a substantial amount of time to complete this assignment.

5. Pictures for art need to be at school tomorrow, in order for the kids to start their Pointillism paintings.

6. In language, the kids should be finished their "Making an Impact" organizers by the end of the week. They will have a chunk of class time to work on these this week.

7. TRIP REGISTRATIONS AND FIRST INSTALLMENTS ARE DUE FEBRUARY 15TH. Packages went home a month ago with all pertinent information. If you have any questions - let me know!

Miss Waddell

Snowy Week!

It's been another wintery week at EPS!

We started the week with some REALLY good oral book reports! The kids have chosen some amazing books to read, and the way they have been presented to the class demonstrates how much they enjoyed their reading material. There are a few more kids presenting tomorrow and Monday.

Our other language activities have included a lot of Olympic material. As the winter Olympics begin in Sochi, Russia, we will be following our athletes on Team Canada over the next few weeks.

In math, the kids are working on their culminating activities in Data Management. The activity is to create an infographic on a topic or theme of their choice.  Infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge.  These graphics present complex information quickly and clearly. The devices include charts, diagrams, graphs, maps and lists.  Each student has been given an outline of the expectations for their infographics, and things are coming along well.  Due dates for final assignments will be determined next week.

History is wrapping up! We are working our way through the Canada at the Turn of the Century. Once we are finished, we start out geography unit. More info on our geography unit in the weeks to come!

In  phys-ed we are starting badminton, and continuing with our fitness rotations. School basketball teams have been picked and the tournament is on February 20th at the University of Guelph. Permission forms will be sent home by the coaches soon.

Our hockey team has its tournament coming up in March - details will follow soon.

Report cards go out today!  The kids and I will go over everything regarding each page of the report. They have also filled in their own "Learning Skills" portion of the report that will come home as well. This is a snap-shot of their own thoughts on their own learning skills. Please review the reports with your son or daughter, and complete the parent portion to be returned to school. If you have any questions about the report, or if you wish to speak to me- please feel free to contact me at the school.

Miss Waddell

Book Reports!

We need a little bit more time to finish our Language Rotations, so book report presentations have been moved forward one day. Presentations start tomorrow.  The kids have known their order since we picked names last week. Looking forward to hearing the reports :)
