Career Day!

Hello Everyone!

The grade 8's had a great afternoon in Orangeville at the annual Dufferin Career Day. There were many exhibits for the kids to see and many informative speakers and guests that provided their professional knowledge to our grade 8 students.  The kids represented our school very well and came back with valuable information that will give each student an idea of possible career choices in the future.
Don't forget to sign the math tests that have gone home for you to see.... and return any IEP forms for those students with IEP's.
The kids have gym tomorrow and MUST have their gym clothes at school tomorrow.
Also - some at-home work the kids could be working on : practicing their multiplication drills and skills!!!!

Have a great night!

Congratulations to the boys and girls soccer teams!!! They played four AMAZING games in the rain, wind and muck!!!!  The kids - both guys and girls teams -  made it to the championship game and put up a valiant fight but lost in VERY close games!!!  Well done!!!! And thank you to all of the parents who came out to cheer us on! What a fabulous day!!!
This Tuesday afternoon, the grade 8 students are heading to the Orangeville fair grounds for a Career Day information session.  Permission forms went home last week, and need to be returned by Tuesday morning.
Halloween celebrations will take place next Monday - the kids are allowed to wear appropriate costumes, and will have a period for social activities - planned by student council.  Treats and snacks are welcome :)

A quick reminder that all IEP forms (for those students on IEP's)  need to be returned this week.

Have a wonderful Monday!!!

Quick note!

Hi everyone!

The school newletter is going home this evening.  Although this is a paper copy - Erin Public School is trying to be more environmentally responsible and "go online".  Please note that in this month's school newsletter, there is a letter to all parents/guardians that contains a tear-off that needs to be returned to their child's teacher. The letter serves the following purpose:
- it directs parents to the school website, http://www.ugdsb.on.ca/erinps/ so you can subscribe to an electronic notification that will advise you that the newsletter is ready online - and will reduce paper copies being sent home to each student.

Intermediate soccer practice will be tomorrow (Wednesday) night after school.  And , if most girls can attend, there will be practice on Thursday after school.

Intermediate band practice is Thursday after school.

The choir will be singing at the Guelph Storm game next Friday - October 14th...please speak to Mr. Snowball if you need extra tickets....

Also - there will be a History quiz next Wednesday - HOWEVER, Mr. Primeau is reviewing all material with the kids this week during their next history class.

I hope that takes care of everything :)

Congrats!

Today we chose our student council representatives!  Each candidate addressed the class and spoke about why they would make a good leader for 8C and what they would contribute to our classroom, our school, and our community.  Each candidate did a wonderful job of sharing their thoughts with the class.  As a result - we had a really tight race for 8C class reps!  The candidates chosen are :

Bradley Cripps

Mikaela Kucharczek

and subs : Shania Brown and Daniel Lamatia

Congratulations!

Homework this evening : some math was assigned today - a few short questions where the kids need to classify triangles by their angles and side length...and a few "building triangles" questions where the kids need to measure and draw the appropriate triangle.  If anyone needs help - I will be available during nutrition breaks.

Hope you have a great day!

Another Week!

Another week has come and gone!!!

We have had a busy week in Room 18!  From science experiments, to gym challenges, to learning about supplementary and complementary angles.... certainly a busy class!

Here are a few items that you may be interested in knowing before the weekend :)

1. 90% of the kids have brought back their "off-school-property" gym forms AND their science trip forms.
We still need a few kids to bring them back in - along with their "Parent Brag Sheets"

2. The science trip to Island Lake is next Wednesday - and we still need parent volunteers.  If you are available to help out - even for half a day - please let me know as soon as possible.

3. The kids have a music quiz tomorrow on note names.

4. In language we have been working on their "ME" essays and we are at the brainstorming stage.  Anyone who is not finished their organizer will have it for homework this weekend.

5. In math we have been working on supplementary and complementary angles and most of the kids have been completing their work in class - so no homework has been assigned yet.

Tomorrow, those kids that have returned their permission forms will be heading to Centre 2000 to play tennis at the courts or soccer baseball at the diamonds.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Viscosity of Fluids!

Tuesday!

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend and enjoyed the warm weather!

We have had a great start to the week!  In class, we have started many activities.  In language we are working on a 4-square writing assignment.  The kids got to choose their topic : Rain Forests are Complex Places OR Pierre-Luc Gangon is One of the Best Skateboarders in Canada.  Each student received a graphic organizer with the information ALREADY on it.  Their job is to develop a good essay, with well-developed paragraphs, around the information already given. Most students finished the task in class, however some students may be finishing this assignment at home tonight.
In math we worked on a "refresher" activity .  We discussed lines, line segments, rays, angles, properties of shapes...and then completed a brief assignment where the kids had to prove to me how much geometry they remembered from last year.  All work was done in class.
In science, we will continue to work on our Fluids unit.  We are going on a trip next Wednesday - the 21st of September - to Island Lake Conservation Area in Orangeville.  The kids will be doing water studies for half a day (which corresponds to a couple of their science units this year including fluids) and then will be participating in Character-Ed activities for the other half of the day. Permission forms went home today, and the cost is $4.  We also need parent volunteers to join us that day. Please have the forms and money back to the school by the end of the week.

Other info :

1. Music test on Friday - naming notes

2. Parent Brag sheets are due by Friday

3.All other information sheets are due in offfice by Wednesday

4. Magazine sales packages went home yesterday and are to be returned just after Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone has a great week.... see you at Open House on the 27th!

FRIDAY!!!

The week went by SO fast! The kids were great and I am looking forward to next week.
Today the kids received a few things that you need to be aware of :

1. The "Parent Brag Sheet"  This is a homework assignment for parents!!! Please read over the Parent Brag Sheet and answer the questions as thoroughly as you can.  This information will help me to program appropriately for the needs of your child.

2. The phys-ed clothing order forms went home - please look over and decide if you will be placing an order.  The clothing is great quality and is reasonable priced.

3. Please return all envelopes with student information sheets/permission forms inside by Monday.

4. Permission forms for "off school-property" gym periods also went home and a re due back next week.

5. Open House id Tuesday, September 27th from 5:30 - 7:00.  BBQ tickets may be pre-ordered for food. Forms went home this week.

I hope I haven't forgotten anything!!  Over the next week or so - we will be getting into a regular routine and  will be feeling a bit more organized - less paperwork to go home!!!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend - enjoy the nice weather,

Miss Waddell
