Many things are going to be happening in 2015!
New units are beginning and some are continuing in Room 18....
Let's get started :
In language :
We are continuing with our End of Days novel studies this week and next. Activities that go along with our study are due by next Wednesday.
Culminating activities for our novel studies will be coming at the end of January, when we completely finish the reading.
Another 6-square writing activity is on the horizon - only this time, the students are coming up with their topics (after a class brainstorming period).
Book reports were handed out at the beginning of December and are due January 12th.
In math :
Number Sense and Numeration tests were returned to the kids today.
We have started our data management unit. The focus has been on data collection, bias in that collection of data, proper surveying, exploring sample size, and displaying data in graphs and plots. There will be segments of data collection, individual and partnered activities, seatwork, and a end-of-unit evaluation.
Patterning and Algebra will begin in two weeks.
In history :
We will be looking at the expansion of the West. The kids are about to embark on quite the journey over the next three weeks.
* Geography will begin in February.
In phys-ed :
We will be working on fitness circuits and floor hockey. The gym periods will be divided into fitness circuits for half the period, and floor hockey for half of the period.
A FEW Reminders :
Thursday, January 8 : Evolve Tours Parent Meeting regarding the grade 8 trip. 7:00pm in the cafeteria.
Tuesday, January 13 : Erin District High School parent info night - 7-9pm in the theatre
**High school applications/course selection sheets aren't due until the middle of February. However, the course selection sheets and information have gone home for you and the students to look through. We will also be talking about this extensively in class. If you would like to speak to me regarding any choices that you may be struggling with, or questions about particular courses, please contact me at school and we can chat.
I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday!
Take care,
Miss Waddell
